Evidently I’m on a roll with these things. I kind of like it. I wrote this poem on the plane between Thailand and Hong Kong. I forewarn you that it’s a little sporadic, but take it one line at a time. Enjoy!
What’s your favorite shape
Boss and which colour has your
favorite flavor? Do you feel the
colors I breathe and the stars
on my heart. Where do they
go when I can’t find any
light Boss and
is my conscious what your voice
sounds like – an old man or
a friend and where do you
put the dirt that
you’ve molded off my face
Boss you chip away all the
imperfections Boss I know
you do but where does
it all go and does it ever come
back again in the clouds like
the water in the rain and the
lightening responds to the thunder
does your laughter shake the earth or
is that you stubbing your toe Boss I like
when you laugh with me instead of at me
like a hyena or a star struck light bulb
in the midst of the wind and the elements
that are really just iron and wine
and rust all over like a swing set in
the rain did you tow a red wagon
when you were younger Boss or pile
red dirt high just to carry it around Boss
or did you prefer a Tonka truck or
you don’t seem fond of little green
men army or leprechaun Boss when
you run do you leave footprints that
look like faces or fingers and what’s
the point of drinking water when my face
is full of crisscrossed lines drawn
in the sand with a stick or was it
your finger Boss are you
trying to grow something out of
my cheek bones or would my
forehead wrinkles work as a better
plot for what you’re thinking Boss
and where we’re going with all
these big plans of yours that I’m too
much of a lightweight to understand
Boss do you measure in pounds
or kilograms or do you have
your own system Boss that exists
outside of this volume like
you Boss exist outside of time
what does it even look like to
you Boss a circle or a square
or the wind that’s invisible
but I know it’s there
because I feel it but do you
feel Boss do your ears
pop and the air feels
like mud do you like to fly Boss
by plane or by thought Boss
can I come on an adventure with you?
