It was a typical day off here on the world race. We had just arrived in Kolkata a few days before and ministry was whatever we could find. I was still tired from traveling and switching to a new time zone but there was a city for me to explore beyond the guesthouse walls that I was confined to.
Whenever I get to a new city, village, town, or where ever I’m at I like to get a good bearing on where I’m at. See what type of people are in the area. Where’s the good street food (if you’re not down with diarrhea, stay away from Indian street food.) Really I just like to know what’s around.
The week before we had just spent our time at month two debrief in Burma where we had all decided as a squad that it was time to gear things up. We talked a lot about discipleship and being interruptible. We actually planted a church in the middle of a park. It was nuts. God was doing work in my heart and I was beginning to understand what it actually means to step into what’s uncomfortable for me. To actually step out in faith for what God has in store for me. To hear Gods voice and act upon it instead of shy away. Life will never be the same, that’s for sure. Month three and I’ve already got what I signed up for.
So back to India, me and the homies, Alex and Jeremy, decided we were going to walk around and see what’s good around. I went out with an open heart, ready to be interruptible for whatever God had in store for us. Little did I know, my perspective of what I’m capable of was about to change forever.
We walked about a mile down a busy road full of car horns honking for no apparent reason, odd smells of who knows what, and people staring from all directions at the only white dudes around. We saw this dude sitting on the ground with crutches lying next to him. I instantly thought to myself alright, time to be interruptible. Let’s go.
We started talking to this guy, he didn’t understand a word we were saying. Jeremy and Alex decided to go and get him some water so I sat with him and continued to try and get some communication. By this time a crowd of people had started to form around us. This one dude started to translate for me and I began to ask the guy with crutches how he was injured, what was injured, and if I could pray healing and a blessing over him.
By this time Jeremy and Alex had come back as I finished praying for the guy. The interpreter asked us if we wanted to come check out his shop, a laundry mat. I hadn’t washed my clothes in over a month so I figured, why not. So, he brought us to his shop, a tiny hole in the wall down an ally way.
We talked with him for a little bit and asked if we could pray a blessing over his little shop. Even more, we asked him if he had any pain we could pray for. He does a typical Indian head-bob thing and points to the sole of his foot. So we pray and and he says the pain has gone away a little bit. We pray again and ask him how the pain is. He touches his foot and looks up in awe, the pain is completely gone. Come on Lord!
A few of his friends had been watching and they began to ask us to pray for them as well. Guess what, they were all healed too! Before you know it, these guys all around started to go grab other friends of theirs to pray for. I consistently prayed for people and saw miracle after miracle happening right before my eyes for over an hour. If I ever doubted what I was capable of as a son of God before, it’s pretty safe to say God proved me wrong.
By simply trusting that God would do the impossible and by praying in the name of Jesus Christ, over 20 people were healed that day. Holy smokes. What on earth.
Before we left that day the men we prayed for asked if we would be back the next day, they had family they wanted us to pray for of course. We said we would be back the next day at 12. This started a daily habit for my team and I.
Although I didn’t get a chance to go everyday, for the next week my team and I saw well over 100 people healed. We went to people’s houses and saw people come to Christ. God had opened up a door in my life which I will never forget. I will never be the same. I will always be interruptible.
I ended up leaving Kolkata at the end of the week but more of my squad came and continued on Miracle Street for over 2 months. From what I have heard, hundreds more were healed and countless lives were impacted by the spirit. God is alive in India. Big things are happening.
