I’m writing to you from Costa Rica because I didn’t get to write a blog to tell about my time in Malaysia, so here it is:

Malaysia is a closed country to The Gospel – you are not allowed to openly evangelise or spread The Gospel. If you do, you could be thrown in jail or deported.

Our team and 2 other teams stayed at a YWAM base in Penang, Malaysia, and I spent my first four days of Malaysia in the hospital with the flu. After getting back, we dove right into ministry. We did a variety of things such as working at a homeless feeding center, street evangelism, and helping people move house to house.

Malaysia was spiritually dark – within just a mile radius of our hostel there was a Hindu temple, an Islamic mosque, and a Chinese temple. Sometimes we would do prayer walks around these temples, and you could literally feel the evil presence and sense of hopelessness. However, it was encouraging to know that I have the hope of JESUS CHRIST and that I don’t have to put fruit out for my God or that it is required of me to pray to Him 5 times a day out of obligation. My God loves me regardless; HE LOVES ME NO MATTER WHAT!

I’m sure you read my blog about a man that I prayed over who didn’t get healed. Well, I have some amazing news!!!! I GOT TO SEE GOD HEAL A MAN!! One night early on in the month, Landon and I were doing evangelism and we saw a man with a crippled foot, so we asked to pray over him. At the end of our prayer, we began to witness his foot slowly uncurl and he popped it into place and began to walk!!! The smile on his face said it all – he looked so happy. Landon and I didn’t know how to react. I mean, how do you react to The Lord healing a man right in front of you?! God, of course, continued to show up throughout the month. Towards the end of our time, we were talking with a homeless man who we had been building a relationship with. One night in particular he was feeling sick, so Katie ( one of my squad-mates) and I began to pray over him. When we finished praying he grabbed at his heart and said, “I don’t feel bad anymore, I feel better” – his fever was gone! JESUS SHOWED UP AGAIN!!! For Malaysia to have been a closed country, I sure got to see so much fruit there.

One day, we were working at the feeding center, and I began to talk to a Muslim man in the back corner. After about an hour and a half of talking about the Trinity and Jesus with Him, He decided to follow Jesus!!! I felt confident in His decision even though we couldn’t give him a Bible to study (it would put the ministry in jeopardy of being shut down). I know he is in good hands with the staff at the feeding center though who can disciple him.

Throughout my time in Malaysia I learned so much about being bold in my faith. I learned that God wants everyone to know His name no matter what people say. So, when I went out, I went out boldly carrying His Name wherever I went.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.
