Ok guys, it’s story time!

Last week was crazy for me. I was running all over the place, getting things done for work, family, the World Race, other commitments, and I was starting to just wear down. I was putting way too much pressure on myself (can you say, perfectionism), and I flat out was neglecting to love myself and take some time to rest.

Wednesday night rolls around, and I’m still going a million miles an hour. I get to Compass (a service for young adults in my community), and I’m talking with friends, the service starts, the worship is great, but I just don’t feel right. It’s hard to explain, but have you ever had that feeling where you just don’t quite feel connected to God? It’s like He’s there and you know it, but something just isn’t quite right, and you can’t put your finger on it. That was me.

So, I’m sitting there and the speaker gets up on stage and begins in kind of an odd way. She started out by playing the song “Reckless Love” by Cory Asbury (if you don’t know it please click here) and challenged us to let God speak to us through it.

Originally, I was a bit skeptical. I thought to myself, “I’ve heard this song a thousand times before, so I’m not sure what I’ll get from this; but, I’ll give it a try.” I’m currently going through a devotional called “The Art of Listening Prayer” (I highly recommend it) which focuses on conversing with God, so I figured why not. If nothing else, at least it’s a really good song.

Now, I was sitting there and started thinking to myself, “Why is it reckless love? God is a lot of things, but He’s definitely not reckless, right?” (acting without thinking or caring).

I started thinking about the parable in Matthew 13 where a man found a pearl so perfect that He sold everything he owned (house, land, property, etc.) just to buy that one stone. I started thinking, “Ok God, I get it. That’s an example of me when I find your love and cast off the things of this world for you.”

And at that moment, God dropped a bomb.

He said to me, “No son. You see that pearl? That’s what you are like to Me. I will and have given up everything for you through My Son Jesus, and I’d do it again. That is My reckless love. I love you.”

I was floored.

All of a sudden, I had this new sense of God’s love and who He is.

God’s love isn’t just calm and peaceful. It’s wild and reckless and full of abandon. His love is above comprehension and deeper than the ocean. The God who created the universe (watch the video below) loves me enough to abandon everything else.

He. Loves. Me.

Wow.
