What if…

I tend to wonder this.

What if I forget something?

What if I don’t get all of my funds?

What if something happens to me or my family while I’m on the race?

What if…

These are a few of my fears about next year. These are the doubts that pop into my mind at random times, sparking fear, worry, even anxiety. Yet, what is the basis of all these fears?

The answer: Not From God.

I struggle with fear as much as the next person, and sometimes it’s just down right awful. That feeling of dread or even just nerves that keep you from being at your best. This fear isn’t from God though. It’s of this world.

I have to remind myself daily that God is in control; and let me tell you, it’s not always easy. Some days I can’t even get out of bed before thoughts of worry start to cloud my mind. These thoughts, if allowed can carry all throughout the day.

Again though, these fears are not from God.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” – 2 Tim. 1:7 (one of my Mom’s favorite verses)

This verse can be broken down into three gifts from God:

Power: God’s sovereign power through us as believers. This power allows us to overcome every trial, temptation, and fear we encounter.

Love: God’s love towards us that casts out fear (1 John 4:18). Because of Christ’s ultimate act of love towards us, we have freedom from all fear.

Sound Mind: This third gift refers to an organized or prioritized mind (which is the opposite of a fearful, chaotic mind). When we look to God and prioritize His kingdom above all, all other things of this world tend to fade in importance.

Now, does this mean as Christians we won’t have any fear, or at least not as much? The answer is no. If anything, once we put our faith in Christ, we may get blasted with new fears.

What putting our faith in Christ means is that we now have the tools to conquer the fear that comes our way and emerge victorious.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” – Josh. 1:9

What we need to do as believers is to seek the Lord with all our hearts, regardless of where we’re at or what’s going on in our lives, and believe that He will deliver us in His perfect time.

So to answer my fears above:

God has me where I need to be, and I have all the tools I’ll need.

God has called me to the World Race and He WILL provide.

God’s plan is perfect and even if I can’t always see it, He will work all things together for good.

This is a bit of what God’s been teaching me lately that I wanted to share.
