The past few months while being off in India/Nepal trying to learn what it looks like to "walk by faith," I've found myself thinking a lot about who Jesus is. I once heard that one of the main stumbling blocks for Jews it the belief that Jesus is fully God. On the flip side, one of the main stumbling blocks for Gentiles was that Jesus is fully man. If you've never considered it before, think about the fact that Jesus (EVEN TODAY) is fully man AND fully God…completely.
Well, since then, I've been trying to get to know my Jesus a bit more on the human level.
These past months in particular, I considered what His life must have looked like while on Earth. I've come up with a numer of conclusions that you may disagree with if you'd like…I may drop more thoughts in later if you want, but I figured I'd give you one today…
Jesus, the ladies man…
Growing up with a church background I've always known that He wasn't anything special physically. There are verses that say that pretty plainly and while I don't remember off the top of my head where to find them, I've always known they were there. SO…the thought of Him being a ladies man never really crossed my mind…
So, where am I getting this assumption from?
Well, here's a few thoughts for ya…
-I don't care what culture you are talking about, mathematically there are just a number of females who are desperate for love and attention.
-There's something deep within a woman that desires to be loved purely and wholly.
-From my experience, we all need God's love and that was made manifest through the life of Jesus…so while we all need Jesus, the people of that time period and area actually had HIM around…
-Jesus was a refugee at an early age as his family fled to Egypt. There's no way that this kind of experience wouldn't have given him different perspective and appreciation for all that he had. Likewise, he would have naturally been growing up speaking multiple languages…Is this attractive to any of you females reading this blog?
-OK, MATH…I have a math minor and so I put it to good use. When Jesus was born, the King feared him and decided to literally kill every child within a year above and below him in the nation. Let's think about this folks. You've got two years of little girls who grow up with no other Jewish boys around their age…and culturally it's a big no-no to marry someone who wasn't a Jew…
Let's put this together now. Jesus just happened to be single, the right age, could speak a number of languages, was "cultured", learned at an early age to appreciate what he had, was growing in favor of God and men, taught in the synagogues, loved people well even when it was taken the wrong way…
Then we find out that he starts healing the sick, caring for the poor and wasn't afraid to accept the undesirables… Likewise, he acknowledged and approached women in a way that Jewish men just didn't. Just ask the Samaritan woman.
I guess all of this makes it not so shocking that women followed him almost as close and sometimes more faithfully than his own disciples. In fact, it's predominently females who fund much of his day to day living expenses for the years leading up to His death…why? …Because he was a ladies man 🙂
He even revealed himself to women before He did to his own disciples…
and He's coming back.
He's coming back soon for His bride with a burning desire to be one with her…
…and I, as a man, am fortunate to consider myself part of the bride He's been wooing…
He's been capturing hearts for ages. Will you let Him capture yours?
