Hey all, I’d like to get some wisdom/feedback/prayers/encouragement about life. Angie, K. Brave and I have been up in the UP of Michigan for a little over a year now. (the UP stands for the Upper Peninsula for those of you not familiar) I’m currently working at RTI Surgical (a company that makes all those fancy bones, rods and screws that go into you if you need a serious surgery). Angie has been able to stay at home with Kohen and has been watching a 1 yr old girl as well.
Lately we have been talking about where we are at as a family and where we are going. We’ve considered all sorts of options both foreign and domestic. I’ve applied at a few positions and waiting to hear back from a couple of them. While leaving isn’t a forgone conclusion for us, we are pretty confident that some significant changes are in our near future. Some of those changes will happen regardless of location. Regardless, here’s a couple of the ones that we are spending the most time praying and talking about…also the ones most urgent.
1. Thailand. Through the world race facebook group we got in touch with a family that runs an English School in Chiang Rai, Thailand. They need someone to step in and teach for a half year and would ideally like that person or family to be in Thailand by mid-September. We would be paid but at best we’d be breaking even. Realistically we’d be going backwards at a time where we can’t afford financially to really keep going backwards. However, Angie and I have been talking off and on about moving to Thailand for years now and this would give us an opportunity to test those waters with a shorter commitment in case it’s not an ideal fit for our family and in particular Kohen. This opportunity would also give us a chance to apply for other jobs while being in country which is a major advantage to committing for years blind. Furthermore it blesses a family that is trying to really be a blessing to it’s community. This option is currently open to us and we plan on having an answer to give them by this Friday.
2. Colorado. There is a private Christian school in Colorado that is hiring a person to coordinate all of the foreign and domestic missions. This is a wealthy school outside of Denver and they strive for excellence. There wouldn’t be a shortage of resources from my understanding or parents that would be involved. If I was hired on I’m assuming we’d be paid well enough to start moving forward on our debt. Likewise, we would be able to influence a school towards missions in a pretty unique way. I’ve only gone through the first two steps with this school and there is no guarantee that I’ll even be offered an interview. However, we are taking this option seriously as well. I’m assuming the school will want to make a decision on their hire sooner than later because of the upcoming school year but I don’t know.
3. UP. Angie and I have been treading water in a lot of ways here and while we feel like it’s time for us to start moving in a direction, we have no desire to pick a direction just to pick one. We want to be strategic in what we do and intentional to do it. If the best thing is to just keep waiting then that’s what we’ll do and then knock on some doors again next spring.
All three have obstacles and both good and bad tied to it. In the end we want to make decisions that mirror seeking His Kingdom first because everything else will be taken care of from there. What we need and are asking you to do is to pray with us, share your wisdom with us and encourage us. We’ll gladly receive it 🙂
