-There's a guy named Enoch who only has a few verses written about him but God ends up taking him up to heaven without dieing (one of two that we know of).
-20 years after Adam died, Noah was born
-Methuselah and Lamech were both alive when God looked throughout the Earth and found ONE righteous man left…Noah. (Lamech died 5 years before flood and Methuselah died the year of the flood, perhaps in it…)
-Noah was 500 when he had sons and 600 when the flood occured.
-Noah lived to 950 yrs old (350 essentially after the flood) which means he lived to see Shem, Arpachshad, Shelah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug, Nahor, Terah and Abram (10 generations after the flood.)
-Abram was 58 or 59 depending on time of year when Noah died…which means there's a decent possibility that Noah blessed Abram and maybe even mentored/encouraged him. Also, he may have been around for two covenants that God made with mankind. The first was with the rainbow and the promise to not wipe out man again by water and the second was the following:
So…Abram was to do 3 things…
1. Leave your country
2. Leave your immediate family
3. Leave your relatives
…and go to a land I will show you.
Abram chose baby steps in this process and I can kind of understand why. If you've after left everything you know behind to walk into a totally different culture, place and people, you'll know that it can be a bit daunting…especially the first time. I've tasted of that but I've always had the reassurance that I'd be back eventually. Abram was told to up and leave completely and there was no assurance that he'd ever see his family or land again…BUT he was promised some pretty significant things. I'm not going to go into all the details but he originally sets out with part of his household and relatives and slowly moves out of the region…Eventually though as he continues to see God's faithfulness, he starts surrendering more and walks by an increased amount of faith. He starts seeing the results of God's promise which comes naturally around the time He's faithful in the things God asked him to do initially.
Eventually after years of life and hard choices and blessings and tension filled nights, God meets up with Abram in a vision (Genesis 15.) During this sleepy exchange God promises Abram some more impressive things including the promise of his own child who will become his heir. He then goes on to tell him more of what his offspring shall go through. I'm pretty sure that most of you reading this blog know a decent amount about the promise and covenant God made with Abraham and how God made the covenant with Himself because that way it could not be broken. This covenant provided a promise that all the nations would be blessed through Abraham's seed (heir…(singular-Jesus)).
So here we are with Abraham being promised a son that was going to produce offspring like the stars in the heavens or the sand on the seashore…
The Strength of two sons to come…
