Jeremiah 31:31
(and on)

31 “The days are coming,” declares the LORD,
“when I will make a new covenant
with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah.
32 It will not be like the covenant
   I made with their ancestors
when I took them by the hand
to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant,
though I was a husband to them,”
            declares the LORD.
33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel
after that time,” declares the LORD.
I will put my law in their minds

and write it on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
34 No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the LORD,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
            declares the LORD.
“For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”
1. This will be a NEW covenant…that is not like the old one. So, if you're a Christian and it looks much like the old one, you're missing out on some stuff. Let me put it this way. I grew up in the church and had a heart after God for years and yet most of those years I was still living in a revised OLD Covenant relationship with God…Not a NEW one!!!

Adding Jesus to the old covenant is like updating your Safari, Itunes, or Antivirus software on your computer…If Jesus is just the newest piece of updated material to your old set of rules and laws, than you'll still find a way to be enslaved.

I know that some of you will still have a hard time really grabbing hold of this idea…it goes against the grain of what we've been brought up in but this point is so ridiculously important that I want to emphasize it one more time…In Hebrews 8, God goes and quotes Jeremiah 31 once again and then adds this in verse 13:

By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.

Jesus made some new hardware for us…He didn't just update our software. If you don't get computers, don't worry about it and move on 🙂

2. There will come a day when He puts His LAW (singular) in our minds and write IT (singular) on our hearts…

SO, what is that law and when is that day???

I guess we'll get there in the next blog.
