I know—it’s crazy! I mean, you’re talking about 11 months of travel to 11 different countries. You’re talking about 11 months away from family and friends. You’re talking about putting your life on hold for 11 months. Or am I really putting my life on hold? In discussing this opportunity with friends and mentors, the subject has certainly come up. Sure, in one sense, maybe I am putting my life on hold: delaying the start to a career, the chance to live on my own. But in setting off on my first mission trip, I’ll can’t imagine anything more important than the opportunity to serve, learn, and grow.
Before I found out about the World Race, I was very confused about the paths ahead of me. I felt that all my friends knew where to go and what God had called on them do. And I was asking what God wanted me to do. I was praying so hard every day. I was seeing all my friends do amazing things, and I was just sitting around taking pictures. But when I learned about the World Race, I knew that this was where God wanted me to go. Now I have the chance to go on my very first mission trip! This has shown me even more how great God is and how even when you feel like nothing is going on in your life, being faithful one day at a time will show you what God wants you to do.
Going on this adventure means that I’ll have the opportunity to grow in entirely new ways. Going on this adventure will introduce me to a world I’ve never seen before, and I get to share that with people who live in different parts of the United States. Going on this journey will show me things I’ve only seen in magazines and newspapers. So no, I’m not putting my life on hold. I’m growing my life. I’ll be seeing things, experiencing things, and sharing things that we can’t find in the backyard.
I got into this because I love to serve. I’m not doing this to draw notice or to say my path is greater than anybody else’s. I’m doing this because this is where God wants me to be, and this is where He wants me to go. I’m meant to serve, and am grateful for your support.
