This month we are working with another team, only one this time, and we are at a boy’s boarding school called “Beacon of Hope, Africa.” We are helping to get the school ready for the boys to arrive and once they arrive, we are actually going to be helping to teach classes.
We are also going to be going out into the bush, where the kids come from, on one day to do a VBS and first aid clinic. There are ten boys here and they all come from the bush. They can’t go to school much past the 7th grade where they live, and therefore cannot get good jobs either. Here, they are schooled and also sent to the public school and, ideally, are taught a trade of some sort that they can take into their future.
They teach Bible classes, math, English, basic health, and other things like that. The goal is to get them to a 10th grade level at which they can get papers and such to get good jobs. They can stay from 3 to 5 years, and once they hit 5 years, they have to go.
The founder, Angie, is from east Texas (Lindale for those of you who know where it is) and she is an absolutely amazing woman. She’s been in Mozambique for 11 years, has adopted 4 kids from here and truly has a heart for the boys here. She does not seek to be a handout in any way, which can be a hard place, but she has several success stories in the past years of the school.
I know this month is gonna be good and I can’t wait to see what God has for me this month!
