So how many of you have ever heard of Burma (formally, Myanmar)?
I know that I had heard of the country, but I had no idea what was going there though.
Our ministry this month does a lot of work with Karen refugees in Thailand. They are refugees because the Burmese government is trying to exterminate them simply because they are a tribal group. The government doesn’t want the tribal groups to exist any more, mostly because they it on the bulk of the country’s natural resources. Burma is a very rich country in terms of natural resources, but they can’t really get to much of them because of the tribal groups.
What’s the solution then? The government comes into villages and kills all they find. If they don’t kill everyone, they take the men prisoner and force them to work in the mines because “Burmese” people don’t want to have their own people working in the mines. The most ridiculous part is that there really is no huge ethnic differences between “Burmese” people and the tribal groups.
The Burmese government and most other around the world are covering up this genocide which has been going on for almost 60 years because of all the political ties. The US government has been secretly supplying the tribal groups with weapons and China and North Korea have been supplying and training the Burmese military. Thats why nothing can be done to stop this, because it would be WWIII. Politics….
A big part of ministry is just raising awareness about the situation in Burma, so thats what this blog was about.
