This morning, in good ‘ole Georgia, we had the craziest weather. At about 7:30 a.m. I heard the loudest wind, rain, thunder and lightning that I’ve ever heard in my life. The trees were being moved so much so that I thought limbs were going to start falling off and plummeting to the ground.

It finally ended and the next thing I observed was sunshine, blue skies and fluffy white clouds. It was a dramatic difference but a much needed tranquility.

I went along with my usual routine and started my devotional for the morning. The passage was based around Exodus, chapter 14, the story of the Israelites crossing the Red Sea.

Something that really stuck out to me when I read it this time around was found in verse 21 (NIV):

“Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land.”

I’ve never noticed that it says ALL THAT NIGHT.

This changes everything!

Can you imagine being an Israelite and seeing Moses only stretch his hand out over the sea and all of a sudden this terribly strong wind from the East comes and starts to pile the water up on both sides? Yet, it doesn’t take a few minutes. It took all night long.

I can only imagine how noisy and wet it must have been. I’m sure it was similar to the storm this morning here in Georgia. But after it was all over they had blue skies, fluffy white clouds and sunshine.

When you stretch out your hand over your “red sea”, with faith and surrender, the Lord begins to move on your behalf.

It may not be in your timing but even if it takes ALL NIGHT He is faithful and is active in your situation.

Will you allow Him to be the strong east wind in your Red Sea?

Allow Him to provide you with the strength you need in the waiting.

The patience in the process.

The joy in the midst of the struggle.

He can and will split the sea so you can walk on dry ground.

I want to leave you with this verse. It’s been on my heart a lot lately.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

I often forget the portion that says, “…with thanksgiving…”.

Now, take your “red sea”, with prayer and petition, tell the Lord about it. Then thank Him for parting the sea and walk on the dry land that He’s given you.
