Just over two and a half years ago I stared at an F4 tornado from a half mile away at some friends’ home in Tuscaloosa. Now, I’m writing this as I’m 2 hours away from where one of the world’s most destructive and deadly storms has ever made landfall–Tacloban City, The Philippines.

If you’re in the States, you may recognize the storm as Haiyan, but in The Philippines, the storm is known as typhoon Yolanda. In just a little while only my eyes will experience the havoc wreaked on the lives of those who physically, mentally, and emotionally experienced and are experiencing the storms effects. On the island of Mindinao, much south of the center of the storm’s path, we were blessed to only get a little rain and wind when Yolanda passed.

I consider it neither a blessing nor a joy to be present when these storms rain on other people’s lives like in Tuscaloosa or Tacloban, but the thrill of obedience that comes from sharing Christ’s love is unmatched elsewhere.

We’re driving into Tacloban now. I’m beginning to realize this is much worse than Tuscaloosa. Honestly, it’s tough to compare.

Our ministry partner this month, Kids International Ministries (K.I.M.), is doing all they can to share the love and serve their purpose here in the Philippines. I’ll post details later about what they are doing and how you can support this local ministry.

Do justice. Love mercy. Walk with God.
