If you follow my story back to elementary school, you might find me walking up the hill from a school named Knight Enloe. Youd see older homes built by families who worked in the textile mill established by the Enloe family. The mill hadnt been in operation for many years when I took those walks.

After walking up the hill, I would walk into the white house with the red-painted porch and plop down on the slick vinyl couch. This is where you meet the next character in my story. Shes one of the most beautiful women I know. Shes the Servants Mother, my grandmother.

Either she would sit down across from me or Id sit next to her. No matter what day it was, Id ask her the question she always expected me to ask Mawmaw, will you take my shoes off? It seemed to bring her joy every time. Her house must have contained this endless supply of blue koolaid, but it wasnt just any blue koolaid It was Bluedini koolaid (bloo-DEE-nee). She knew how to make the best vanilla milkshake too, or if it was just vanilla ice cream in a bowl, hers somehow tasted better than any other.

She eventually moved across town to a house with a yard that connected to ours. Even then when I walked home from middle school, I would bypass our house and head for hers. Wed sit under the pecan tree, swing on the porch swing, or pick scuppernongs off the vine. To this day, when I visit in the fall, I can trust shes picked and saved some for me.

Mawmaw loves Jesus. She finds great joy in staying active, working in the yard, and gardening. She loves her children, grandchildren (I claim in Jesus name that Im her favorite), and her great grandchildren. She and I have many memories together, and I have learned from her how to love and serve others. She was voted prettiest in grade school, and that doesnt surprise me. 1 Peter 3:3-4 must be her motto.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in Gods sight.

Happy Mothers Day Momma, Mawmaw, Mur, and mothers and grandmothers everywhere!
