So here’s a few things that happened this week….

On Monday, we went to a school where we expected that we would be helping teach the kids English, math, science, etc. When we arrived at the school, the principal, a pastor that shared a message with us on Sunday, told us that the kids were having exams this week, so we couldn’t help the kids like we anticipated. Instead, we were given the task of digging the hillside to create a flat spot for the kids to have play time. We were with another team on Monday, so we almost had too much help for the space we were working, but it was good to get closer to those on that team. I played soccer with the kids during their break, and that was a ton of fun for me! We did the same thing on Thursday but without the other team.

Tuesday and Wednesday we went to a place called Heart of Christ. A lady named Gracie and her husband, Lee, rescue women, young girls really, from sexual abuse and rape. Human trafficking is obviously a problem in Honduras. The girls who stay on the property have had babies as a result of rape, the youngest of whom is 12 years old. She was first raped by a family member at the age of 9. She got pregnant at 11 as result of this, and she had her baby at age 12. They take care of a few kids with special needs too. Gracie told us a few graphic stories of the things she’s seen, the least of which was not a story about a mother selling her daughter for sex so that she could feed the rest of the family. Ridiculous. Heart of Christ does all of the other things missionaries do too. While we were there, we had the opportunity to play with the kids, spend time with the young mothers, and work on a little canal for draining water from the outside wall of the property into an area that will be used as a garden. Each morning we had to wake up early enough to leave at 5 AM so we could beat traffic and get to Heart of Christ around 7:30.

That was our ministry for week two! Here’s a few lessons learned…

Sharing a single bathroom with guys and girls this month is awkward yet ridiculously funny. Two showers, three toilets. Well played, God.

You probably can’t eat as many tacos as you think. (#firstworldproblems) We had an eating competition on Wednesday night. I got third out of the guys competition. I did win the award for best sound effects while competing though. Roll Tide!

Washing clothes by hand is something I’ll have to get used to doing.

The game Nerts or Nertz will provide hours of entertainment this year.

Don’t always trust Spanish speakers or you’ll end up telling people your head or pants are full of poop.

The END.
