I started off the month living with a team doing what we call “Ask the Lord Month.” The team had not been given a ministry contact, but was challenged with daily asking the Lord for how they could bring glory to His name. Along with ATL month the team also worked with the Unsung Hero campaign in which they searched for Christians currently doing ministry in Romania in hopes of serving with them and sending teams to serve them in future months. Some days were filled with meeting fellow followers, and some days involved walking down the street talking with people on the street. It was tough, fun, and full of following the Lord.
When I left that team, I began my stay with the 12 disciples–12 fellow racers who happen to be female. We served alongside a pastor named Raul in a town Draganesti-Olt. He has created a network of missionaries in the region who minister to children, hold house churches, distribute clothing to families in need, care for the communities, and share the gospel boldly. Raul asked me a lot of questions that I needed to be asked. He really challenged me to seek why the Lord has designed me and how He has created me to bring glory to His name.
All while this was going on, I was spending time in prayer and fasting to ask the Lord for provision and for blessing over those who have blessed me. There were a lot of things I learned about fasting this month. Fasting is about you getting close to Jesus and, in turn, Him getting close to you. Even more than that, Isaiah 58 encourages us through fasting to provide for the poor, feed the hungry, and clothe the needy. Fasting involves taking your focus off the things you give up so you can focus outside of yourself to Him and to those around you. To be honest, I don’t think I did the best job of this, but at least I learned how to truly fast in the future.
The adventure highlight of the month was definitely one of our final nights in Bucharest when Jake, Jonathan, Seth, and I persuaded this apartment guard to let us on the roof of the building that overlooks the Unirii Square of Bucharest. Here’s some low-quality photos from the night…
