he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn
from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to
hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my
sake, you will save it.” (Luke 9: 23-24)

Never
have these words been more real to me than the last few years of my life…
I’ve
always been a dreamer, perhaps more than most people. I used to have a strict
plan mapped out for my life. It revolved around me accomplishing some above
average goals, probably some of the same things a lot of people would want in
life. I thought I’d work hard, build a good reputation and name for myself, but
I’ve since realised that a name legacy isn’t really a positive legacy at all.
I
can’t truly say I’ve experienced actual living till I abandoned my own dreams
for the life God intended for me.
Until
I died to myself…
I
have different dreams now, better than ones I used to have. They don’t involve me
as much, but desire to bring hope to those who desperately need it. When I look
through His eyes, I see His people and I grow in my love and compassion for
them. His love has made me want to bring
light to darkness, peace to the restless, food to the hungry, joy to the oppressed,
freedom to those in bondage, love to loveless……………………. His
heart yearns for many.
I know my life won’t be easy, neither do I
want it to be. My life is in His hands now and that’s where I hope it will
always be.
You
see, the World Race in not a starting point for me, but the next step for me in
my life of surrender. It’s part of my
journey to get closer to God, become more rooted in His love, more concerned
about the things that break His heart, and to come to a deeper realisation of how
He wants me to serve this very broken world.
Perhaps the best way to end this entry is with
a quote:
When James Calvert went out as a
missionary to the cannibals of the Fiji Islands, the ship captain tried to turn
him back, saying, “You will lose your life and the lives of those
with you if you go among such savages.” To that, Calvert replied,
“We died before we came here.”
I’ve chosen to die before the Race…
