We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip.  Here is our story.

Ben:  When I was young I felt that God was calling me to preach.  Since that scared me, I decided that it would be best for me to be either a lawyer or a judge.  As I grew older, I thought more about the sensibility of becoming a lawyer–so a lawyer I was going to be.  I had that goal until some time in high school when God totally changed my mind.  We were doing a Christian play called “No Place to Flee” about people in the WWII era being persecuted for their faith.  It made me think a lot about my priorities and what I really wanted to do with my life.  I realized that I would not be satisfied with living my life for money (which is why I wanted to be a lawyer).  I would only be satisfied if I lived my life totally for God, and He was calling me to preach His gospel.  Since that time, I have pursued being a missionary, and I have not looked back!

Michele:  I have mentioned this before, but I have never wanted to be a missionary.  My dream was to be an Archaeologist.  I wanted to travel the world, doing my own thing, having fun, studying different cultures and peoples my way.  I enjoyed most missionary stories I heard in church or in school, but I always thought “Wow, I could never do that, nor do I ever want to!”  I really must get out of the habit of arguing with God!  He told me what college He wanted me to go to, and I told Him no way!  Well, I went and I must say the only good thing that came of it was my husband.  And he is the missionary.  I must say, his parents were slighly concerned that his marrying me would ‘take him away’ from being a missionary.  That is so funny!  The way I look at it is–God brought us together, had us get married, God knew Ben was to be a missionary, and God knew I wanted to serve Him.  Therefore, I had no problem!  So God called me to the mission field through my husband, although He had been working on me for quite some time before I met my husband.  OH!  And how God called us to this trip!  When we got married, we wanted to take a year for ourselves to get to know each other better.  We made no extensive commitments, and just enjoyed being married.  🙂  We didn’t really keep track of the time; but about a year after we got married, we started praying for God to show us exactly what to do.  And He answered with this mission trip!
