Everyone has a title or name. In this case our ministries name is Anderson School. A private Christian school in Quito, Ecuador.
When I signed up for the race, the thoughts that streamed across my brain were broken down houses and loving on the poorest of people. Yet God continues to refresh my vision on what it is to love and help all of his children.
My team has been blessed this month to live in a gorgeous house with cozy bunk beds, warm showers and a well-organized school system to serve in. On our first day of school, we were confused as to why we were placed in such a nice area and told to “help the broken” and “teach the blind”. However, over this past week of teaching we have learned that all people need the love of Christ in their lives no matter their social status. I was blessed to be paired up with a lovely teacher that the kids call Miss. Angie. We go around to all of the different grades and teach about morals and values in life. Through her the kids learn about the different ways they can live serving the people sitting right next to them. I see her spirit around the school and the ways that she affects the students to want to be better, not just to get good grades, but to actually improve as people. Even though this place is labeled as a Christian school, I have learned that it needs an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. To give the teachers the strength to continue showing the kids that Jesus is not just a God to praise every Sunday, but a friend to turn to for help and wisdom daily. I hope that with the power of the Lord our presence here will show that the act of being a Christian is not just a title to gain but a lifestyle.
