“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:16.
How he loves us! I am in awe of how much Jesus loves to surprise us and lead us into the unknown. Both in foreign lands and in our homes. Today is a day that may seem simple and ordinary. Yet, the Lord surprised me and gave me a mission on a whim that led me into an adventure with him here in my neighborhood. I love how he does that!
Today I was cooking spaghetti and green beans at home. I am home alone this evening and was wondering what I would do with all the spaghetti! In that moment, the Lord brought a street corner to my mind. Walnut Street. I drive by this corner each day as I drive to the group home I work at. I always notice the men that stand on the corner. Except today, I knew the Lord had given me a mission! A mission as simple as a bowl of spaghetti and green beans. I love how he does this!
I have noticed something about how when God calls us to follow his leading, the Enemy always attacks and tries to convince us that this is somehow going to fail. I thought that maybe the corner would be empty or I would not be able to give the dinner if the light was green. How silly! As silly as this attack may seem, it seems to be a pattern each time the Lord calls me.
I felt an urgency to deliver this dinner to the corner of Walnut Street and I quickly grabbed my keys and ran out the door in my blue sweatpants, sweater, and flip flops! As I was driving, I realized how much fun it is to follow Jesus! One minute I am cooking dinner at home and the next I am driving to an unknown destination!
Once I arrived to Walnut Street, there was a man! A man with a Washington State University flag and a cigarette. This was the man I am supposed to give this dinner to! The light was red and I waved to the man. He arrived at my side and I handed him the dinner as I explained how the Lord has led me to him to give this dinner. I told him that Jesus really loves him and he told me that Jesus loves me too! It was an amazing moment! The Lord loves both of us enough to bring two strangers together to share how much Jesus loves us. How special that makes me feel!
In each day, following Jesus is the greatest adventure!
