So. The past week in Thailand has been a blur. So much has happened, but it’s all happened so fast. We arrived in Chiang Mai on the 4th. It was a blessing to finally be off the bus. And we, as a squad, spent the next four days in debrief. We talked a lot about what happened in the first month–both around us and in us. So it was good. We moved to our hostel on the 9th, and we’ll be here the rest of the month. And a few days ago I found out what Boldly Present will be doing for the month–ministry-wise!
Wait for it……..
We’ll be walking to local temples and talking with monks. (The official title is called “Monk Chat.”) In this area of ministry, our goal is to build relationships/friendships with the monks. We’re having conversations with them to get to know them, understand them better. And to wait for an open door for the gospel. AND We’re also working in the slums–playing with kids, singing songs, and just loving them.
So. A typical schedule? We don’t have a “daily” schedule. But we have two different ones that we alternate between.
Schedule 1: 6:30–Wake up and start to get ready for the day. (This is totally just personal. Some of my team might wake up this early, but I’m not sure.) 7:00-8:30–Quiet time (again, just a personal thing 9:00–Breakfast! So the ministry we’re working with provides breakfast and lunch. And the food has been really good. 9:30–start walking to the temples 10:00-12:00–Monk Chat 12:00–Walk back to the hostel 1:00–Lunch 1:30-7:30–Free Time. We have the entire afternoon to relax and get some things done that we might want to do. So exercising, walking to the Chinese market, walking to the grocery store, getting Internet, taking a nap, eating dinner, practicing the guitar/ukulele, etc. 7:30-8:30–Worship and Intercessory Prayer for the team going out for night bar ministry. 8:30-whenever–Free time. Usually this is spent for team time. But really, it could be for whatever. 10:30ish–Bedtime. I’ve been hitting the hay around this time every night. It’s been wonderful.
Schedule 2: 6:30–Wake Up Call. 7:00-8:30–Quiet time 9:00–Breakfast! 9:30-12:30–Free Time! 1:00–Lunch 1:30–Walk to the temples. 2:00-3:30–Monk Chat 3:30–Walk back to the hostel 3:50–Walk to the slums 4:00-6:00–Play with the kids there 6:15-7:15–Dinner 7:30-8:30–Worship and Intercessory Prayer 8:30-whenever–Free Time 10:30ish– bed time
So. That’s kinda what our days look like. Nothing fancy. But it’s good. And I’m excited to see what The Lord has for us.
