1 John 2:3-6–> “By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in Him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.”

These verses get me every time. It’s amazing how they change me and grow me.
And it’s awesome to see how the Spirit uses them the challenge me and examine my own walk with Him.

I’m forced to examine my motivations for the things I do. Am I doing them because I have to? Or am I doing them out of the overflow of love The Lord has placed in my heart for Himself?
Am I just barely doing the things He’s commanded me to? Or am I doing them wholeheartedly and with joy?

If we love God, we’ll keep His commandments. And the first and greatest commandment is to love Him with all that we are.
So am I keeping that commandment? Am I loving Him with every breath I take? Am I loving Him with every thought I think? Am I loving Him with every action?
The answer: a huge resounding “no.” But that’s where grace comes in. That’s where He’s teaching me daily what it means to be “in love” with the Creator of the universe.

And that’s where I’m at.

The Spirit challenges me daily to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel of grace. Some days I do better than others. Some days I epically fail.
The great news is that the Father lavishes His grace on me continually. I may be having a great day–His grace abounds.
I may be having one of the worst days of my life–His grace still abounds. It’s a truly beautiful thing.
But every day I’m called to lay aside myself and fully and completely chase after The Lord and all He has for me. And that means walking like Christ.

How do we walk like Christ?
Well, we follow in His footsteps. We walk humbly.
We walk gently.
We walk meekly.
We walk in power from on high.
We walk prayerfully.
We walk in grace.
We walk in freedom.
And we walk in love.

It looks different day-to-day.
But we’re called to be Jesus’ Light and Life to this world.
So walk lie Him.
