I’m a missionary. I live in a valley outside of Kathmundou, Nepal. I get to wake up every morning to the most beautiful mountains outside of my window. I get to travel the world for 11 months. I share the good news of Jesus Christ’s love for a living.
These are only a few of the many thoughts that keep running through my head every morning when I wake up and remember that I am on The World Race. Every single day I thank God for blessing me with this once in a lifetime opportunity. My mind can’t even comprehend all that the Lord has given me and how much He has, is, and is going to teach me over the next 11 months.
Yesterday marked the end of the first week of my life in Nepal and I am still in awe of it all. When I first walked off the plane and put my feet on Nepale ground for the first time, I looked at the mountains around me and instantly said a prayer asking God to help me soak in every sight, every person, every experience and every moment of my time in this country.
The first couple days after we arrived we spent most of our time resting and preparing for the ministry that we were about to begin in Nepal. During this time of rest we were able to do a little exploring in the surrounding area and city and I instantly began to fall in love with the culture and people around me. The first few days of our ministry here were filled primarily with attending “House Fellowship” in the valley where we are staying. On average we would walk approximately 1-3 miles from our home to the house where we would all meet together. Our guide and host BJ would lead us through a series of steep hills, rocky trails, and skinny paths along rice fields until we finally arrived (usually out of breath and sweating profusely) at the home where we would meet for House Fellowship. We would be greeted with a smile and a verbal greeting of “Jaymashe”, a Christian greeting meaning welcome and praise God, by our gracious host. We would then enter the humble home, often in a lightly lit small room and begin our time of fellowship. One of my teammates or I would share a short testimony and message with the people there. We would spend time in worship (some songs in Nepale and some in English) and then we would spend the rest of our time in prayer.
We went to several different homes over the duration of our week for House Fellowship and there would be anywhere from three to thirty-five Nepale people who would attend. It was amazing to see how much God is working in and through the lives of the local people here. They live so simply and yet they have such incredible passion for serving the Lord in every area of their life. Their lives completely revolve around God and praising Him. It continues to be incredibly humbling to be in their presence and see the love and passion that they have for God. I often feel that I am learning more from them than they could every learn from me.
We also have spent time doing other ministries such as: children’s ministry, sports ministry, prayer intercession, working with the local YWAM ministry and their students and even climbing a mountain to pray over the valley as a whole. God is doing huge things in this valley, in the hearts of the people here and even in us as World Racers. I cannot wait to see what the next 3 weeks here will hold.
Prayer Request:
-Good health for my team and I (Team Aperture) and also for the Golden Arrows Team (they are living and doing ministry with us this month)
-Prayer for strength physically, emotionally and spiritually. We walk nearly everywhere we go for ministry and are still getting used to the high altitude and steep treks.
-Prayer for the people of Nepal. The majority of the local people here are strong in their Buddhism and Hinduism beliefs and are blind to the truth of the Gospel. I ask for prayer that they will have open hearts and that they will one day know and accept the truth of Jesus Christ and His love for them.
-Prayer for the believers in Nepal. Pray that they will stay encouraged and feel uplifted by the Holy Spirit while they live among the community here.
-Prayer that our times of ministry will be used by the Lord and that we will all be good stewards of His word.
