The question everyone is asking today: “What do you want to
change in the year 2011?” or “What are your goals for the new year?”

My New Year’s resolution comes with a little back story. All
of you know by now (at least I hope you do) that I am leaving in 5 days *whoa*
to start the adventure of a lifetime. I will be all over the world,
experiencing new and exciting things around every turn. So the typical
resolution simply wouldn’t do for this year.

My sister, mother, and I had movie night last week, watching
Eat Pray Love.  Though slightly boring
and a little slow moving, I was thrilled watching this movie! All the different
areas and people that I will soon be surrounded by! To summarize, it’s about a
woman who travels to a few different areas of the world to experience life. Ok,
that’s a really broad summary, but you don’t need a detailed description of the
movie. During this one part, she talks about something that I hear far too many
people say these days…

In life, we tend to stay in a mediocre situation because we
are afraid of failure. We would rather suffer through a relationship or job
that is merely OK, instead of going after what we truly want, all because the
thought of losing our status or comfort is too much to bear. After several
years of this, Julia Robert’s character comes to the realization that ruin is the road to transformation.
Sometimes in life by failing, we find the strength to follow our dream s without
having limits or settling for something short of what we deserve.

So what is my New Year’s resolution? I want to be ruined. I
want to lose my life completely, so that I can build it back up on the
foundation of God alone. I want to be completely transformed. I want to be confident to follow my limitless dreams
without the shadow of doubt or fear or failure.
And being ruined leaves one weak, and in our weakness HE is made strong!

2 Corinthians 12:9 “But
he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in
 weakness.”
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that
Christ’s power may rest on me.
