So life since The Race has been anything but easy (no surprise there).

I’ve gone through the normal ups and downs… and probably a few extras, moved a few times, faced the harsh reality of the devil incarnate (also known as student loans), said goodbye to my best friend as she moved away to another country and is soon to be married, and have seriously struggled with God, my relationship with Him, and the ever present question, “what the heck is going on right now?!” (Read the last phrase in a slightly panicked and confused voice for the full effect)

But that’s what being a girl in her mid-20s is all about I suppose and at the end of the day, it’s not all that bad, actually it’s pretty darn good despite the muck.

Jesus, seriously people.
It’s all Jesus. How many times do I have to say it? Jesus. That whole saved me from death, punishment, and hell on earth (and after) really puts a positive spin on life which is mostly unexplainable. I’m for real wondering why more people don’t want to jump on the Jesus train.
Oh ya, it’s a crazy hard ride. But worth it. Oh so worth it.

Anyway, let me get to the bullet point life update, and probably the only part you’re actually going to read (and that’s 100% okay! Trust me, no judgement here.)

What’s going down in the life of Beka Joy:

  • Job #1: Still employed at Dallas Christian College, only I switched departments.
    • New fancy title that came with the switch: Assistant Director of Outreach. That means I work in the Admissions Office. (What does it really mean? I do whatever they ask, so nothing has changed.)
  • Job #2: Director of Mobilization with Initiative Dallas (www.initiativedallas.com)
    • I helped launch a new non-profit/network in Dallas. We try to unite and mobilize the church through young Christians (think 18-35, not like babies… that’s too young). Yes, we’re crazy and we know it. (And yes, we work for free.)
  • Relationship Status: Single, with some single on top. Kidding. But no really.
    • Let’s not act like we’re surprised people, but I’m loving it and savoring my moments that are just me and Jesus with no other visitors for now. (I feel this way about 93%- 96% of the time… I’m not super woman after all)
  • Living Situation: Still in my lovely Apartment 301, but MOVING SOON!
    • The memories in 301 have been many, but it’s time to move on to bigger and better things, like a yard, a neighborhood, and over 1000 more square feet! I’m excited to be moving into a house (rental) at the end of MAY with 4 other girls and their closets, which we are sharing. Hallelujah!
  • City: Carrollton, TX (North Dallas)
  • Age: 25 (What?!?!?! That’s cray)
  • Recent Mission Excursion: Co-led a Dallas Christian College Kingdom Week Mission Trip to Guatemala in March
    • Thank you to those who supported that trip. It was such a blessing to lead college students overseas again and to be out of the country in general. (After the team went home, I also stayed and spent time with my bestie!)
  • Next Trip Out of the Country: Not soon enough, but Wanderlust lives on! (No definite plans, but here’s hoping it’s soon)
  • Graduate School Status: Not ready to start yet, maybe next year!
  • Church: Still at The Branch, with the people I LOVEEEEEE
  • Other Notable Moments:
    • Human Trafficking Outreach: When I can, I try to go spend time with women in the brothels in Dallas (with a team). My schedule doesn’t allow me to go as much as I’d like, but I’m working on fixing that.
    • TV Show: I had a crazy idea to apply to be on a new docu-series just for fun… because they aren’t ever supposed to call you after you apply. Well, they called, I’m still in the process of seeing if I’ll be on TV. I probably won’t, but it’s a fun story to tell!
    • NEW Blog: I’ve felt compelled by the Holy Spirit or God or a combination of the two (or maybe it’s just me and my craziness) to start writing again for quite a while and I’ve ignored it. I’m caving and currently in the process of creating a new space online for this to happen. I’m publicly posting it so I don’t have a choice but to follow through (in theory).

Why the update? Because I know full well that I wouldn’t be where I am today without many, if not all of the people who have followed along with my story, some even before this blog began in 2011.

So this is my way to say, all is well. I am doing my best (in the midst of many failures) to say yes to what God puts in front of me, and right now that is serving the people and the city of Dallas. However, if that changes and He ever asks me to pick up and go again, trust me, you all will be the first to know.

I love you all and please let me know if there is any way I can serve, love, or pray for you and your families.

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5.23-24

With love and then some,

Beka Joy
