There are
many street feedings for the needy that
occur all around the capitol city of Malaysia- Kuala Lumpur. One takes place on a
particular side street every single
Saturday near where we are staying… rain or shine… holiday or not. This street
feeding is put on by church volunteers and has been going on for 10+ years. The group provides a meal and drink, basic
medical aid, counseling, and fellowship through songs & prayers.
‘Rooted’ had the opportunity to take part in this amazing effort this past
Saturday. It was very rewarding. We kindly mingled with the community, as a
band performed worship songs, and a brief presentation was given in the
Malay language.
highlight of the day was when it came time to pass out the meals. All 25+
volunteers got in a line and passed the cartons of food like a production line.
It was not only efficient, but it was very personal. I got to physically touch
every meal that was passed out. Almost as soon as we handed over the last meal,
we were walking around with garbage bags to clean up. Some got up and left as
soon as they finished their last bite from their plate, but many stayed to
mingle some more. Our team was involved with many meaningful conversations.

I interacted with are ‘worthless’ by society, disowned by their families, and
clearly deprived of love and kindness. It was such a blessing to be able to
serve them today. Who knows, maybe THIS Saturday feeding is the only thing some
of these people have to look forward to throughout the week.
