“They tried to bury us, but they didn’t know we were seeds.” – The Overflow, Cambodia

We world racers are the seed planters, the garden waterers, and if we’re lucky, we’re the harvesters. If I were to try and explain what I have been doing for the past 10 months of the race, I know that I could speak in terms of gardening. Month after month we take our giant backpacks to the nations, to different organizations or churches to help support and encourage the long-term missionaries that have planted themselves in these remote places. Their dedication and commitment is so inspiring. To the eyes of many back home in America, it probably feels like we’ve been away for a really long time. To us world racers, we’ve greeted our hosts, eaten dinners, listened to orientations, preached in churches, taught a few classes, had nights filled with prayer, worship together, connected with our neighborhoods, fallen in love with the street kids, started to learn the language, and had to say goodbye 10 different times. We’ve essentially gone on 10 short term mission trips. We don’t always get to see the fruit of our labor, but we’re trusting in the God that does. We’ve been planting seeds and cultivating the gardens that have been set in place before us. Our job is to love and support the missionaries that have dedicated their lives to disciple the communities that remain here in the bush long after we’re gone. It’s been such a bittersweet year, and I’ve had some really hard goodbyes. If God called me into full time ministry, I would love to stay longer and see the harvest. Maybe He’ll call me back again someday, but for now He’s calling me into a season of listening and waiting. I know that the words “ROOTED” and “WORSHIP” keep coming up in prayer, so we’ll see what He has in store.

My encouragement for you is to pray and ask the Lord what is it that you’re passionate about? What passion in your heart can you transform into a ministry for His glory? When He reveals it to you, plant roots and watch the gardening process unfold. It’s not going to be easy, whatever it is, but when it’s with Jesus, I can promise you that it will be something beautiful and exciting in your life. Hold on to it.

Love, B.
