When we weren’t trying to walk on water last month, believe it or not, we actually did ministry! It was such an eye-opening experience in Nelspruit, South Africa which really opened my eyes to how ministry is more than going to orphanges, and helping the poor. The month we were involved in such practical ministries that can take place in everyday life! π
Here’s a brief overview:
Sidenote: June 14th was our halfway day of the race!!!!!
Real Estate and Meat Market Ministries-
Two mornings a week we would go before these two local businesses opened to pray with the employees of the Real Estate office as well as those from the Meat Market. We would share what the Lord was doing in our lives, what we were learning then they would share with us about their weeks, their struggles, praises and prayer requests. After we’d pray with them, praying for thier struggles, families, and business. It was so incredible.
The testimony of the meat market just amazes me! A few weeks back Papa Kent (the guy we stayed with) felt the Lord telling Him to go get gas at this gas station right by the meat market, so he went. When he got there there was an ambulance outside of the meat market because one of the workers had a heart attack. Papa Kent went over right as the ambulance was about to leave for the hospital and asked if he could pray for this guy. All the workers gathered around and prayed with him, when they guy got to the hospital they found nothing wrong with him! From then on each week he goes, prays and worships at the meat market! So awesome!
Primary School-
Every Wednesday we went to the local primary school where we would spend about 30-40 mins worshipping with the children, we’d do a little skit, mini-lesson and pray with them! This was my favorite part of the ministry in Nelspruit. To worship with the children was incredible. We could feel the presence and the delight of the Father there as they closed their eyes, hands held high, smiling, laughing and singing praises to the King of Kings!! Ahhh it fills me with such joy to even think about!!! π
Our last Wednesday, a little girl came up to us in tears because her parents were seperating, so we prayed for her and instantly she was filled with peace and there was a smile on her face. We felt her pain as we watched her friends walk beside her on the playground and it broke out heart. Without a doubt though she still continued to be comforted by our Savior.
A week before we arrived to Nelspruit, Papa Kent and his wife Mama Shay taught the children a lesson on Healing and prayer. There was a boy there with a cast on his broken leg. All the children gathered around him, layed hands on his cast and prayed and he was healed! He went to the Doctor and it was all better so they took off his cast! WOW!
Treasure Hunt/Mall Ministry–
This was a really exciting day! We did a treasure hunt with Jesus! Before going we seperated into teams and asked the Lord for clues such as Names, Colors, Shapes, What to pray for, where to go, and so on! The Lord led us to the mall where we were able to find our clues. We walked around the mall looking for the people He was leading us to and when we found them…we prayed for them! One of our clues was knee brace. The first place we went to, there was a guy who walked in limping wearing a knee brace, same thing happened with a boy who had the flu and a man with a cast! We also were led to another lady and prayed for her and her family! God is SO cool and he never seizes to amaze me with stuff like this!
Making New Friends–
We made good friends with a guy named Wimpie who was part owner of the meat market. Sometimes we neglect to think that simply hanging out with friends and lovin’ on them is ministry. He’s our age, but in Nelspruit there really aren’t too many Christian young adults, so we were blessed to have spent time with him. We worshipped together, had movie nights and the one night he invited us over for a BBQ. It was really fun! After eating we worshipped some more and his family (parents, g-parents) insisted that we sing worship songs for them. I’ll be honest I thought it was a little akward at first but soon I realized how much joy it brought to their lives! They glowed as we sang and told us we sounded like the angels. Their hearts of gratitude and generousity were inspiring to me! Love them! π
Orphange–
Two days we went to a nearby orphanage. Our first day there was powerful as we prayed over each of the children there (about 65 total) especially praying protection over the girls. There’ve been issues with men raping and taking advantage of them so we took oil, annointed each one of them as we prayed claiming them with the love of Jesus Christ. After we were finished we prayer walked around every building at the orphanage site asking God to place His protection and angels around the buildings.
What a wonderful month it was! God is so good and ministry is as simple as prayer! π
Thank you for your prayers!
MUCH LOVE!
