We were asked to write an essay called “This I Believe” about what really matters to us, as preparation for this world missions adventure called the World Race. This is what I believe…
RING! RING!
I answer my
phone…Hello?
Where are you
girls!? Get over here! You can easily win this thing!!!!
Alright, we’ll be
there in 5.
…It
was Dance competition night at Shippensburg University!!
We
(my twin sister, Kendra and I) had joked about entering the contest, but we were
not really serious about it until, on our way home from the grocery store, we
got that phone call…
Quickly, we
detoured our apartment. I ran inside, grabbed my cds, and, minutes later,
we were backstage at Memorial Auditorium!
“Great! You made
it! You’re up next!”
Smiling, we just
looked at each other and laughed…okay!!!
Seconds before
going on stage, the backstage MC turned to us… “Do you have a cd? …and which song number do you want?”
We just picked a random CD. We had no idea what songs were on it. So, we shrugged our shoulders and said …“umm, how ’bout number 1?”
The lights went
down as we took center stage in front of a full house!
The wild Spanish
dance music started and the lights came up! Of course, we had no dance routine
planned. Keeping serious faces, we busted out the most ridiculous, cheesy, out of control
dance moves that we could think of! Some of which include…
the sprinkler, washing dishes,
swimming, disco, resuscitator (AKA CPR), walking the dog, miming, shower, climbing a ladder, sliding down a fireman’s pole, driving a car, football throw, 2 person
tug-of-war, an attempted version of Michael Jackson’s moon walking, and any other crazy random moves we could think of!!
The audience
didn’t know what to think… whether to laugh or if these shenanigans were a pathetic attempt of
a serious dance routine. However, halfway through, they were cheering and dying
laughing!
To make a long
story short, that completely out of control, spontaneous dance party that we had in
front of a packed auditorium made us laugh so hard… we laughed even harder when we won 3rd
place….(3rd to a break-dancer and the Ship Dance Troop who practiced for months) I still believe we were the clear winners! 🙂
Anyways, so where
am I going with this?
We can’t always
plan everything in advance; in fact, there is only one person I know who has
everything planned out, down to every minute detail. That is our Lord and
Savior. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know
the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you
and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Each day, we are
presented with new opportunities, and we must take advantage of them as they
come up; whether it be something wild like spontaneously entering a dance competition, or, on a more serious note, helping a
friend in need, making someone’s day, taking a last minute vacation, giving to the
poor, telling others about God… anything.
Whatever opportunities
we are presented with, let’s not pass them by! We may never have that chance
again, instead let’s take them on and do it for the Lord! And if things get a little wild and crazy…even better!!! 😉
2 Corinthians 5:13 If I acted crazy,
I did it for God; if I acted overly serious, I did it for you. Christ’s love
has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in
everything we do.
Seize the opportunities
and most importantly….
This I believe: CARPE la LOCURA… seize the craziness
