Six days ago I stepped off of a plane into the hustle and bustle of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. My stomach was in knots from fear of the unknown, exhaustion, and nerves. One question ran through my head like a ticker on Wall Street, “what did I get myself into?” Timid to turn every new corner, I wondered where my sense of adventure had fled to. Looking ahead to our ministry only added more feelings of uncertainty. The Unsung Hero program, with the sole purpose of seeking out new ministry contacts for World Racers to partner with, has great potential, but it also means that our team doesn’t have an official contact to work with for the month. We are kind of on our own, left with the daunting task of finding new ministries within this massive and chaotic city.

Eyes wide and hearts open, our team jumped in; and wow, has God shown up! Six days later as I stand with my teammates on a busy street corner waiting to weave through the tangled dance of motor bikes, tuk-tuks, cars, buses, and trucks in a new section of the city we haven’t ventured in before, I stand with excitement to meet with pastors from a local church! I love the opportunity to uncover the work already being done in this city for the advancement of the Gospel!

Phom Kimhorn, or Kim, works at the Peace of Christ Church. Ana, Lynda, and I had the privilege of meeting with him and another staff member this morning to hear more about the ministry they have here in the city and see if the World Race could be a helpful partner. To hear the passion, heart, and drive they have for reaching their community was so exciting! On all sides, the meeting was an answer to prayer; they continually told us how they have been praying that God would send more help, and we have been praying for God to lead us to new ministries. I sat in the midst of this beautiful collision, reminded of God’s sovereignty! Opportunities for outreach began pouring out on the table of the coffee shop. English and computer classes could finally be offered and their children’s ministry grown if they were provided with a team. While visiting the church it was obvious the eagerness they had to begin these ministries right away!

Peace of Christ Church is just one of many churches and ministries God has led us to speaking with, and we’re only on day six. I pray that the World Race could begin a good partnership with them and help empower them to continue advancing the Gospel in their community! I wait with eager anticipation to see the other ministries God chooses to show us over this month! He is at work here in Phnom Penh, and throughout the whole country!
