Our culture loves to use the phrase “Time heals everything”.
I used to buy into this idea, until my perspective changed and I found a better way. Let me tell you about it.
First off, I do believe distance between a tragic event and the current moment (time), does play a part in the healing process. However, time itself in my opinion only numbs the freshness of the pain, which then paints an illusion that time does in fact heal. Of course, the further away you get from something the less you’ll think about it or feel it. Its logical; But the thing is, it not sustainable.
I think a part of the healing process is a choice. It’s choosing to sit in the pain and brokenness, feel the feels and then make a conscious decision to pick yourself up off the floor. It is a choice to look for and find joy in the small things and remember the good moments.
We have to face our pain HEAD ON! We can’t be passive about it, or those feelings will stay with us and steal our happiness.
I know for me, sometimes I like to stay in the pain longer than I should because it reminds me of the reality of what has happened. That is, if I choose to let go of the pain, then I will have nothing left of what I had lost. This too is an illusion and a lie.
No one knows exactly what we are going through EXCEPT God. He knows how we feel and what we’ve gone through. Only he can ultimately help and heal us. The only way that happens is if we surrender our hurt and pain to God and trust that he will heal our hearts and provide us with exactly what we need.
The key to surrender is this: You can not pick back up what you surrendered, PERIOD! Do not think to yourself, “I’m still hurting…thus God isn’t working(that is, in the time frame YOU WANT).” So you go and decide to take things back into your own hands and control. NO-NO…That is not surrender. You have to decide everyday that you are going to leave this in God’s hands, and trust him even when you don’t feel like it or see the results.
Trust me, I know this first hand. (:
Everyone experiences pain. We live in a world where it is unavoidable. If you think you can avoid it, check yourself(really!). We all go about facing and dealing with our pain in different ways and I can respect that. However, I’ve found a way that works for me and that is why I am sharing this with you. My prayer is that whatever pain you are going through and wherever you are at in life, I pray that you can find healing, joy and fulfillment through the process.
I love you all,
-B
Scripture:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”. – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (bold added)
