Easter! No not the day where the Easter Bunny visits and leaves chocolate eggs. That’s fun and all but no. The reason for Easter is to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Seriously.
Muslim’s biggest argument against Christianity is this: “how can you believe in a God who dies?!”
Why did Jesus have to die? If he was God couldn’t there have been another way? Couldn’t he have saved himself?
No. He had a greater purpose in the works.
Some people see Jesus dying as a tragedy, and yes it is if we didn’t have Easter–the day Jesus DEFEATED death and rose again. That is something to celebrate!
Jesus dying for us equals freedom. We are liberated from our sins; They have no power over us anymore. We were made right in the eyes of God despite our sin…all because an innocent man chose freely to be betrayed, beaten, and nailed to a cross. I couldn’t imagine. I don’t know anyone who would choose FREELY to do that. Like COME ON!
In my head he either had to be crazy or madly in love with us. I choose to believe the second option.
The ultimate sacrifice, the ultimate act of love, all because God wanted a personal relationship with us. He wants to rescue us, and wants to know us intimately. Right now…TODAY! All we have to do is say YES.
So this Easter, in Serbia I am reminded of the severity and deeper meaning behind the cross and what Jesus did for us. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for him, but still he did it. So, I will never take it for granted nor ignore the depth of his love for me.
Thank you Jesus for all you’ve done and all that you are still doing.
Happy Easter!
