Hello my wonderful people,
I have really struggled recently with what to write about in my blogs. Yes, I am doing things and experiencing things, but they don’t seem exciting enough or life changing enough to put into a blog. Ok reality check: “Becca you are half way across the world traveling to 11 countries, in 11 months, I’m pretty sure your life is far from boring.” That right there is how I know I am at the half way point in the Race. This exciting, life changing, adventure I am experiencing has become my new norm, my every day. So…Figuring out what to share is becoming more challenging.
With that said there is something that God has put on my heart to share with you all.
***Warning: the below contents is my own opinion and may be controversial!!! Proceed with caution. ***
In today’s world, there are a lot of negative stereotypes on religion; specifically, Christianity.
I’ve heard Atheists say Christianity is a crutch for the weak.
I’ve heard Agnostics say Christianity is not the only way to get to God.
I’ve heard Millennials say Christianity is just a bunch of rules people follow that suck the fun out of everything.
I’ve heard Nonbelievers say Christianity is just a bunch of hypocritical people.
I am not going to lie, I have had all of these thoughts before and I AM a Christian. It doesn’t matter where you are from or what background you come from, everyone in the world has had similar thoughts.
I’ve learned it is easier to judge something when you don’t know anything about it. This is true when you are dealing with anything from people, to sexual orientation, to religion, to different cultures. When you don’t know the heart behind the idea, the opinion, or the belief, it’s really easy to chalk it up to what you see on the outside ONLY.
BUT the good stuff comes when you dig down deeper and see the heart behind the outer apperance.
CHRISTIANITY IS NOT….
– A Cult
– A Set of Strict Rules
– A Religious Affiliation
– A Crutch
– A Self Help Book
– Restricting/Binding
– A Birthright
– Arrogant
– Judgmental
– A Status
Christianity IS:
– A Personal Relationship with Jesus
– Freeing
– Grace-Filled
– A Choice
– For Anyone
– Loving
– A Community
– A Place of Growth
– A Place of Hope
– Honestly at the end of the day God wants to personally know you and for you to know him. He created you out of love and wants you to feel how deep and wide his love is for you. He wants you to walk in freedom and boldness and to be confident in who you truly are, not who the world says you are.
My ministry this month consists of doing outreach activities to the people of Albania who are not Christian. We are partnering with a local church here in Tirana the capital of Albania. The people of Albania are predominantly atheist or agnostic. There is a lot of brokenness in this city and it breaks my heart. The other day I was spending quiet time with Jesus and asked him to give me his eyes in how he sees the people here in Tirana. I just sat down and wept because God showed me how his heart aches and longs to know the people in this city. This just broke my heart and motivated me even more to reach out to the people here, to love on them, and to show them the hope of knowing Jesus personally.
This month looks different than any other month I’ve experienced on the Race. At first, I was a little intimidated to do outreach in the city, however I know the Lord is going to stretch me and use me in great ways this month. I can’t wait!
Thank you for reading my blog and respecting my views. If you ever have any questions about anything I said please feel free to reach out. I’d love to have a conversation with you about any and all of it.
