I had a dream the first night we were in Thailand.
I was shopping in a supermarket when I came across a stand near checkout. On it stood three, crying, Thai girls. They couldn’t have been more than seven years old.
As I looked at them confused, a hand reached past and pushed me aside. It was a large man who stepped forward and looked at each of the girls intently with a cartoonish grin across his face.
He pulled one off the stand and she immediately started crying. I reached out to pull her back, but my hands couldn’t get a strong grip.
As he started going through the process of checking out, I heard something that urged me to pray, so I started to pray against him taking her. I asked God to convict him and make him feel incredible discomfort.
In the dream, I even approached him and started praying inches away from his face. As I prayed, the man started sweating and squirming in his skin. He looked from left to right as if embarrassed someone was watching him.
I feel like God gave me this dream to remind me that sometimes our human efforts to fix the evils of the world don’t work. Our hands can’t quite get a strong enough grip to pull every woman out of slavery. Although I am impatient for a kingdom where human beings aren’t sold, my human efforts will never be able to impose the value of women into the heart every man on the planet.
That doesn’t mean I give up hope. I had this dream my first night that I was in Thailand, a country known for sex trafficking. A country where men fly in from all around the world just to visit red light districts and brothels. However, I refuse to look around and accept this fate for Thailand.
God showed me in my dream that our prayers have greater impacts than we can ever imagine. When we ask for justice and we ask for freedom, God hears those prayers. Even if I never see a single Thai woman freed from trafficking, I have to walk in confidence that God honors intercessory prayers. I don’t have to see the impact to know it’s there.
Join me in prayers for woman trafficked here in Asia and around the world. Ask God for their freedom, and also ask God to work within the hearts of men who buy women. Your prayers are world changing.
