Today we had ministry as usual, but our evening was full of new things. Last week, we met a woman who is working in Las Charcas with the Peace Corps. Her name is Erin and she is awesome! She is helping install stoves in homes in the village so people can be more environmentally friendly and she is also working with people in the neighborhood to start a neighborhood association. She is amazing to me because she is helping people like we are but she is doing it all on her own. I don’t know where I would be if I was the only person doing the work my team is doing. We’ve had the blessing to get to know her and today we walked around San Juan with her and showed her some of our favorite spots that she can go to when she is in the city.
As usual, it rained this afternoon. What was unusual was none of us were at home and only one of us had a rain jacket (nice job Andrea). We were drenched by the time we got to the bakery we like. Thankfully, God has blessed our team with a Dominican dad and Pastor Manuel came and picked us up in his van. After changing out of wet clothes we went over to his house where his wife and daughter had prepared an awesome Dominican dinner for us. It was so good. It felt like a family get together that I would have at home. Ana, Manuel’s daughter, has a beautiful baby girl that is loved by anyone who meets her. She was passed around to everyone before, during, and after the meal. Our translator, Juan Carlos, came as well as the other pastor we’ve been working with, Octavio, who is Manuel’s wife’s brother. After dinner, Juan Carlos helped us learn some Creole phrases to prepare for Haiti.
God has blessed us more than we could have ever imagined. The family we’ve become a part of has so much love in it. It’s hard for me to believe that we’ve blessed them as much as they’ve blessed us. I’m going to miss them a lot. It is hard to believe that this month is almost over. Only 10 countries left? Really? Time goes by fast so it is my job to make the most of every minute.
