Things are starting to pick up around here as we continue to meet new people and discover ways to meet their needs. For example, while out inviting Pipeline community members to church, we met the director of a childrens home down the road called Sure 24. The name encompasses the idea that this is a sure place for kids 24-hours a day. We took her up on an invite to tour their grounds, and I can’t wait to tell you guys about it.
Sure 24 started in 2004, and now houses ten girls and 36 boys under the age of 18. They have several different amenities, including the Living Fountain Academy, tailoring shop, hair salon, small library, fish ponds, and that is just the beginning. They are also in the process of building a new church, and girls’ dorm. This place is incredibly self-sustaining, using the fish pond, salon, and dress shop to provide work and food, and to teach the children skills they can use to help them seamlessly transition into their adult lives.
After our tour we got a chance to meet with and talk to the kids a little bit. There is such a strong family atmosphere dominating that place that you cannot help but walk out with a big smile on your face. And these kids are talented. One of them jammed on the keyboard for us, while another handful of kids performed some fun hip-hop dance routines that you could tell they had been working hard on.
We hope to return to Sure 24 during our time here to help out in any ways we can. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes!
