With so much structure incorporated into our daily ministry, downtime is not taken for granted.  This past Sunday we had the afternoon off and needed to get away from “the strip” the street that our house, the church, the store, and the bi-weekly market is on.

As we were walking down the hill, we noticed a blue-capped building off in the distance.  My teammate Rachel, who is always roping us into adventures, suggested that we try to find the building on foot.  Next thing you know we’re making our way across the train tracks, through the village, down back allies and busy streets, trying to close in on those blue caps!
About a half an hour later we successfully completed our mission.  Turns out it is another Orthodox church.  Okay not the most exciting destination, but it was more about the getting there.

The road kept going, and so did we.  Behind the church we found a huge cemetery with blue pipes in place of tombstones.  Our walk continued passed the vineyards (Moldova is well known for its wine and beer) and all the way to the highest point in Cornesti.  The landscape was too beautiful for my point-and-shoot to do justice, but here is an idea of what we were looking at:

Pretty sweet, right?  After this we made our way back down the hill towards home, thinking our site-seeing treats were over.  Wrong!  We luckily caught the train coming into the station, too. This is where our luck ran out.  The “band” was just a crazy-loud stereo system.  Bummer!  But you can’t win ‘em all…!
