We hear statistics all the time. Impressive numbers thrown out, alarming percentages waved in our faces. Does anything phase us anymore? Tell me 11,714,000 people have cancer, or 36% of Americans are overweight and I’ll just nod. Well, if that’s what they say. It is official: we have become numb to the numbers.

For this next statistic we'll flip our approach around and back into it by visualizing exactly how many people we are talking about first. Ready?
Let’s Talk Politics
Did you know that approximately 1 million people showed up for President Obama’s Inauguration Address? That’s quite a crowd! Now multiple that by ~ 6 and you have the population of NIcaragua . An entire country. To recap, the number under the microscope is now 5.8 million.
Okay Sports Fans
How about this: 5.8 million people could fill Ann Arbor Michigan’s football stadium 53 times, and the legendary Old Trafford Stadium (home to English Premiere League’s Manchester United) a whopping 78 times. Are you getting this? We're talking about a lot of people here.
For The History Buffs
5.8 million is also the estimated number of Jews murdered in the Holocaust, one of the largest attempts at genocide in world history. It's a devastating amount.

Everyone with me? Now take your picture of people, and transfer the vastness of it into this statistic:
5.8 million people in South Africa alone are currently living with HIV/AIDS.

This number probably won't fill any stadiums, countries, or people groups, but it will quantify the number of lives that you and I TOGETHER were able to make a difference in. Do you have goosebumps?!
