It is only day four of our time in the Philippines and it has been awesome thus far! My team (Fuego de Dios) is working with team Nikao this month at Kids International Ministry. We are very spoiled this month as we have our own beds and a shower for our team.

The past few days we have experience Filipino culture and explored the different ministries we will be involved in. Each of our team members have been placed in different ministry sites. Some are doing feedings and bible studies in near by communities, others are working with orphaned children in a nursery.

Samantha (from team Nikao) and I are focusing a lot of our time with girls in the Josie’s Angels (JAS) home. The girls in this home come from different backgrounds of physical and sexual abuse.

It has been a pleasure to start working with and getting to know these girls. We just want to pour into them and show them love and their self worth in Jesus.

On a side note, in the process of getting to know me many of them have approached me and said to question if I am Filipino.  One of the girls came cover to me on the first day and said “Ate Bea, you look Filipino.”  (Ate means older sister in Taglog) I had to explain to her that I wasn’t. J

Moreover, on one of the feeding trips in the community an elderly lady came up to me after we were done serving the children and started speaking to me in Taglog. I told her I didn’t understand but she gave me a really big hug and said thank you. Later on she told one of my squad members that she thought I was Filipino.  Haha

On that same feeding trip, a woman came up to me and asked me where I was from. I told her my family was from El Salvador, and she pointed to my skin and hers and said “Same color, same people”.  It was really precious.

I’ve gotten a lot of other people tell me similar things about my Filipino appearance. I am glad I can blend in a little bit, and thought you all would enjoy my little stories. I cannot wait to get deeper into these girls lives in our time in the Philippines.

Much love,

Bea xoxo

P.S.- I am still looking for some monthly supporters! Also, I will not have internet next month for various reasons.  Love you all!!!
