If you haven’t yet please read the first half of this blog, Intruder (Part 1)

Shakey and anxious, I stared around the room at my 6 teammates. Some looked back with tear filled eyes, others not at all.  Our contact paced the tiny space. Needing to do something, he suddenly collected his car keys and told us it was time to take a drive. The instructions we were left with were, “Lock the door behind me and worship together. We will find him before the sun comes up.”

So we did.

Hiccuped, uneven songs floated through our home. An hour and a half later, we concluded our worship. Within 10 minutes, our contact, a witness, the police and the robber were back at our door.

The witness God used to find our intruder? Another man who had just been released from jail the day before.  Because he kept such odd hours in jail, he just happened to be walking on our road, unable to sleep. He recognized the man running down the street and when our contact drove by and asked, was able to identify him for the police.

Just as our contact said, as the sun peeked over the top of the mountain, my team jumped at the loud knock on our front door. This time, a good surprise.  The police asked for a few of us to follow to the station to identify the man.

He had been found.

As I look back, I cannot help but see the Lord’s protective hand over everything that happened that early morning.

He woke up a teammate, to use the restroom, just in time to find the man before he found us.

Convicted another to rise early and pray in the silence just so the first didn’t have to be alone.

Kept the knife far away from each one of my teammates.

Held me as I hid, even when I felt alone.

He was there.

He watched over us as we ran down the street for help.

Protected our contact as he roamed the streets alone.

Placed another man, whom some would deem unusable, in the exact spot to help find the intruder.

Sat in the room as my teammates spoke to the robber at the police station and shared the gospel with him.

And made sure that both men who had been watching our house were apprehended before the next night so we could sleep a little bit easier.

He was there.

God is there to protect you in the heat of the moment and comfort you through the fear that comes after.

I felt like I was alone.

I wasn’t.

He continues to heal me from the pain of what I thought was happening to my team and the nervousness I still feel every time I try to go to sleep.

He is the ultimate protector. The ultimate provider.  My God triumphs all the time, every time. He is where my comfort is found through any struggle.

He is here.
