I really enjoy people. People who look like they really enjoy life. Every moment of it. The people with a little extra pep in their step who stand up tall, with a grin on their face. The people who probably have shoulder pain because they throw their arm up to wave at people every chance they get. I also really appreciate the people who make you feel like they are really listening to what you are saying. I could listen to a person talk about something they love for hours and hours. I have gotten the chance to hear a couple of my new friends talk about their girlfriends or boyfriends from back home and I feel warm inside listening to them search for the perfect way to describe someone so that I can get even the smallest glimpse of the goodness that person brings to their life. Listening to people talk about their passions and the way they found them is one of the most beautiful things in this world. Getting to hear people express how much they want to go after some big dream that they have always had or hearing stories about friends from back home and things they used to do when they were kids. Memories that cause uncontainable joy and a seemingly permanent smile on a face. People are so fascinating and so different. This world is full of a never ending supply of stories you have never heard and people you haven’t been given a description of yet.
I like to think that God feels the way I do when we talk to Him about these things. He loves to watch our eyes light up when we are talking about the things we care about. He cares about them too. He listens closely to every detail and a smile flashes across his face with ours. He leans in a little bit closer to soak up every word we say until eventually he is sitting on the edge of his chair. His eyes widen when details of our stories become intense and He jumps at the sound of the shocking things. When we talk about things from our past that are touching and have made an impact on us, I believe is eyes fill up with tears until they become so full that they over flow and tears roll down His cheek. He cares about what we have to say and He wants to talk with us about these things. He is not there for us to run to only when we are broken and things get tough. He is there in those times, comforting us and wiping away our tears, but He wants to hear about the good things. He wants to hear about your desires and passions. He knows these things about you already, but He loves the sound of your voice.
Try it out. Tell Him about something you love, right now. Tell Him about what you want to do with your life. Tell Him about your dream vacation that you want to take some day or about the kids you want to have. Tell Him about the funny thing your best friend did last week. Talk to Him. He wants to hear your voice.
