Hi everyone, my name is Averie. If you’ve stumbled across this blog because you know me or if you’re reading this just out of sheer curiosity, most of you probably have the same question for me, “Why the World Race?”

To answer that question i’ll have to take you back about 2 years. In January 2017 I left for a mission trip through AIM (Adventures In Missions) to Costa Rica. We were there until about May 2017. That trip changed my life completely. I was baptized, I starting hearing from God like I had never heard from Him before, and I received a calling to work for a church. When I got back from the trip I tried to live that calling I had received out. It was hard at first because working for a church is not your “typical” job, especially when you just received a pretty expensive degree specializing in fashion merchandising/marketing. But when God calls you to something, it is always going to be so much better than we can ever think of or anticipate. I soon became the Student Ministry Director for a church in Columbus called The Church Next Door. It was an awesome opportunity and I loved working with my amazing middle and high schoolers.

Around the end of November 2018, The World Race started creeping back into my mind. I had heard about it since I did my last mission trip through AIM. I always loved the idea of it but never thought that I would actually be called to do it. Ever since my trip to Costa Rica I wanted to go on another mission trip. I love mission trips because I not only love to see this beautiful world that God has created, but I love to see His people. I have a passion for helping others and, specifically, showing others the love of Christ. I started researching The World Race again and came across this specific route. I talked to a mentor of mine one day just running through everything that was going on in my mind. Later that night I prayed that He would make it clear to me if I should do The Race or not, and boy did He make it clear to me!

So I signed up, got accepted, and now i’m sitting on my couch typing up this first blog post. Like I said earlier, whether you just stumbled across my blog or you know me personally, I would love if you partnered with me on this trip. You can partner with me financially and/or prayerfully. I wouldn’t be here without my friends, family, and most importantly, God. I am super excited to start this journey and see where He leads me. Follow me and join me in this epic journey 🙂
