Ok well maybe not, but it sure feels like it! We like to refer to it as “Romerica” because it really feels like we are back in America here.
Before getting into where I am staying this month, let me give you a rundown of our “Travel Day” from Haiti to Romania.
We wake up at 6 a.m. and board a bus at 9 a.m. to leave Haiti. When I say board a bus, I mean a 35 passenger bus with 45 people, 45 packs, and 45+ daypacks and purses. Now that is community!
We arrive at the Port au Prince airport at 11 a.m. and we board our plane after about 5 delays at 7 p.m. that night. We arrive in JFK at 11 p.m. and we literally run to make our connection at 11:55 p.m. Experiencing America again for 30 minutes was nice(especially considering we thought we would have a 14ish hour layover in JFK)
We get to Istanbul, Turkey at 4:15 p.m and board our final plane about 15 minutes after we get to the airport.
We landed in Bucharest, Romania at 6:30 p.m. and got on a bus (without our big packs, they did not make it with us) which takes us to a train station.
We board a train at 10:45 p.m. and take a 9 hour train ride to Timisora, Romania. We had a 4 hour layover there and got to explore the town, which was awesome!

Some Squadmates during our tiem in Timisora
Then we board our final train to Oradea at 12:45 p.m. and arrived in Oradea at 5:15 p.m.
So, 50 hours later….this is what we walk into:
Yeah…this entire place for just 12 people….2 WR teams. It is an understatement to say that we have been blessed this month. We have this amazing house to live in, we are near a mall. we have several large grocery stores to shop at….basically it’s america. We like to call it ‘Romerica!’
The Vision of Felix Family Villages is to meet the physical, spiritual, emotional and social needs of the orphaned and abandoned children of the world, in a loving environment.
Basically Felix Family Villages are a complex of homes where each home has a married couple who then adopts 12 or so orphans from around Romania. They are then the parents for these orphans for life. The children grow up in a loving Christian household with loving parents and are do not move around while growing up. They have consistency in their surroundings, in love and in their upbringing. It’s a great ministry and I am happy we have the chance to work with the families here.
