Wow here I am. This is really happening. I am here in Belmapon Belize on month 1 of the race. It has been quite a journey to get here and now this is finally happening. My team and I are staying at a place called Belize Base came which as I stated is in Belmapon Belize. Our ministry host’s name is Miss Mona and she is such a kind woman. She has been here in Belize for years partnering with all kinds of local schools and ministries to advance the kingdom of God and bring hope to this country.

Since we have been here we have been volunteering at St. Michael’s School. We met with the principal Mrs. Sanchez and she explained to us how the education system works in this country. Education is required by law until a student is 14 years old however school is not free. Also, very few students go on to high school because the fees more than double from primary school to high school. While serving at her school she encouraged us to try to instill hope and a value for education in the students we interact with. As part of our attempts to do this, we are painting murals around the school the make the environment more pleasant. We have also helped install various trash receptacles to decrease the amount of trash on campus. It has been really great seeing the children’s excitement about the work we have been able to do in such a short period of time.

There are three teams staying here at Belize basecamp this month and we have been spread out in the community doing various ministries. Some of the groups we have been able to reach are school children, at risk girls, young single mothers, and more. As the month goes on there are so many different opportunities and areas to serve. We will be hosting a week long VBS next week for kids ages 4-12. Keeping children busy and out of trouble goes a long way in decreasing crime and helping to secure a bright future for those we come in contact with.

Check out my week 1 recap vlog HERE! I hope to do a weekly update on YouTube so everyone can not only read about the things my team and I are able to do, but also see them. This week will be our first full week of ministry and with it I’m sure will come great stories of the great things being done here!
