During our time in Ethiopia we got to write letters to future racers. Since we are nearing the end of our journey we wrote letters about things we have overcome. Here is my letter to He future racer struggling with comparison.
Dear Child of God,
I know right now you may be struggling with comparison. You are on a journey that is big and we serve a big God who does big things. Yet somehow it seem like what He is doing in and through you isn’t nearly as big as what He is doing in and through the next person. I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! Very early in my race I felt like everyone around me was being transformed and having the greatest epiphanies and I just was not. I was crying out to God to change me in some miraculous way but I felt like I just wasn’t getting what everyone else was.
The more I spent time with the Father the more He revealed to me that I wasn’t getting what the people around me were getting because I’m not them. And what they are getting isn’t for me to have. God uniquely created you. To expect Him to do the exact same thing for you in the exact same way He did it for the next person is an insult to His ability to love you individually. The way you speak, listen, interact, and everything else is unique. And we serve an infinite God who is able to meet you uniquely in all of those things and more. Stop looking at what the next person is experiencing and look to God.
In the story of Jesus walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33) Peter asked to walk on water and Jesus made it happen. If Peter had been looking at what everyone else was doing and posturing himself accordingly he would have never had the mindset to ask for something so big. But Peter had his eyes on the Lord which led him to ask for something no one else even thought to ask for and as a result he received something no one else did. What waters could you be walking on if you you weren’t too busy looking to see what the next person is doing or receiving.
You are fully loved right where you are. God has an AMAZING place to take you to. The only way to get there is to look to Him without ceasing.
Your sister in Christ,
Aundraya
