Many of you, as you are planning fundraisers, are curious about providing our tax id number. This is a sensitive area where we are governed by specific IRS laws. Because of that we do not publish or give out that number in any location, but we must determine whether or not your fundraiser qualifies. Here's how that process works…
Basically if the donation is coming directly to AIM, then it is tax-deductible. If the donation is going to a participant, it is not. Below are some examples of when it is acceptable to give out our Tax ID number.
o Foundation is sending a donation to AIM
o An organization wishes to make a donation for a participant
o An organization wishes to hold a special fundraiser and send the proceeds directly to AIM
o An individual who made a donation wants the number for their tax records
o An individual or organization makes a “Gift in Kind” to AIM
§ For example “Relief Kits” for Haiti
o A participant wants to hold a fundraiser and have an organization give them items
§ For example
· a “fun run” and a business is going to donate prizes
· gift certificates to a restaurant to be auctioned
o An organization wants to give money to the participant directly
o An organization wants to donate intangible items to a participant
o An organization wants to give equipment to a participant [i.e. tents, etc]
§ Personal equipment is not tax-deductible
Please also note that Adventures in Missions is not yet incorporated as a non-profit in Canada. Therefore, receipts issued to Canadian individuals or businesses are not eligible for tax purposes.
