Hello from South Africa! My team is spending the month in Jeffrey’s Bay, and we have had a blast so far! We are working with a Christian camp that’s called UCSA, which is located just 2 blocks from the beach. I’m going to share with you a little bit of what this month has looked like so far.

The main religion in South Africa is Christianity, making up over 85% of the population. Many people here say they are Christians but will also follow traditional beliefs in Africa. The country is still recovering from the apartheid that ended in 1994, and racism is still a large factor here.

Team Selah has been working and living at UCSA this month, and it has been the place I’ve felt the most at home since I’ve left America. We are living in a cabin and help out with camps onsite and outreaches to local schools. You could say that my past experiences have made this the absolute perfect ministry for me! The UCSA staff truly knows how to work hard and play even harder. They have been so kind as they take care of us and want us to have the best experience possible.

This month has been our busiest month of ministry so far, which has been quite a change of pace after last month. We spend the weekdays going into schools and telling high school students about Jesus, and our weekends have been filled with going into full on camp counselor mode (filled with 14 hour work days). We have one off day a week, and we have been squeezing all the adventure out of those 24 hours, whether it’s surfing, sand boarding, exploring the city, or whatever. Needless to say, we earn our hours of sleep every night!
