A few weeks ago I had a fundraiser planned; our church has an annual summer pool party at the local pool. My brother, sister in law, parents and I were going to sell water and ice cream sandwiches; who doesn’t like ice cream in the summer?!

So the day of the party came and as my brother, sister in law, and I were finishing up some last minute details we got the call.

In the words of our missions pastor Chris, we had a code brown.

A KID HAD POOPED IN THE POOL!

Evidently this isn’t as uncommon as I feel like it should be. See this happened a few years ago only it was 30 minutes before we got the pool. Since it takes 24 hours to sanitize the pool after this happens our pool party was cancelled.

So we had a ton of water, ice cream, and Capri Sun and nothing to do with it. My brother was stressed.

We planned, and those plans failed.

I think that this situation sums up how I am viewing fundraising, I know that God has called me to this trip, and I trust that he will provide for it.

I have every intention of continuing to put forth fundraising effort; however I am refusing to worry about it. Worrying isn’t going to get me anywhere.

In Matthew Jesus says:

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life.”

(Matthew 6:25-27)

In my head I’ve kinda replaced hour to your life with dollar to your account. I know that no amount of worrying I do will help me reach this goal, so I am not going to waste the energy. Instead I’m going to pray, and trust that the Lord will provide in whatever ways He will.

Oh and I almost forgot, best part of a kid pooping in the pool, so many Capri Suns.

A HUGE thank you to my brother Aaron (that’s him), his wife Celeste, and my parents for helping me fund raise. They are a huge blessing, and I would probably be a nut case without them around.

One last thing, if you are in need of a laugh. This is one of my favorite youtube videos about being a party pooper.
