-I am not defined by what I see when I look in the mirror.
-I am not defined by what other people think about me or have said about me.
-I am not defined by the clothes I wear, the car I drive, the place I live or the size of my bank account.
-I am not defined by what I do for a living.
-I am not defined by how many friends I have or who they are.
-I am not defined by my IQ score.
-I am not defined by my athletic and artistic abilities or lack thereof.
-I am not defined by my relationship status.
I am defined by the Word of the Most High God.
God is my Father. Jesus is my brother. I am redeemed. I am holy. I am blameless. I am priceless. I am immortal. I am invincible. I am loved. I am chosen. I am a champion. I am fearfully and wonderfully made. I have a remarkable destiny that was decided before the earth was created. I am a soldier. I am not a citizen of earth but of heaven. I have the power to change the world.
I have been struggling for some time with my identity and having a difficult time believing that the promises in the Bible could really be meant for me. Then on Sunday pasor Michael told a story that really opened my eyes:
It was about a baby eagle that fell out of its nest into a farm yard and ended up being raised by chickens. The chickens taught it how to peck around in the dirt to find bugs and chicken feed and so it grew up believing itself to be a chicken. Often it would look up and see eagles flying over and wish to itself that it could fly like them. But it never learned to fly because it didn’t know it could.
The story was very sobering for me. I really believe that many of us are like that eagle, secretly wishing we could do great things but not believing we are capable of them. God has really been teaching me the importance of knowing who I am. It may sound proud to some, but I have also been learning that humility is not necessarily thinking lowly of yourself. Humility is agreeing with God.
I am not a chicken. I am an eagle. And so are you! It’s time we started acting like it.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. -John8:32
